About
EXTRA UNIVERSE — *"Perhaps...what they have in excess may be the very part that is missing from us."*
A section of MOCA BANGKOK is becoming a portal connecting our world to the EXTRA UNIVERSE — an artistic universe created through the works of 50 artists from 21/3 ART STUDIO.
This exhibition isn't simply about presenting "the works of artists with Extra Chromosomes." It invites visitors to step outside their usual worldview and temporarily slip into the artists' universes. Here, you are not merely a visitor, but an "intruder into another cosmos" — while the 50 artists are its true owners.
**EXTRA / UNIVERSE / CONNECTION**
Stepping into EXTRA UNIVERSE, you'll find that each universe has its own rules, language, and rhythm. A rainbow doesn't need to arc across the sky. A house doesn't need a roof, door, or window. The sea may be made of countless tiny shapes. A single image may be painted over and over on the same canvas, day after day, until each layer of colour becomes a record of time.
Some universes are filled with people they love. Some hold strangely shaped flowers. In some, everything gradually dissolves into thousands of dots. And some may simply greet you with: *"I am fine, thank you, and you?"*
These works may appear abstract to viewers — but to the owners of these universes, every image has clear meaning: people, homes, windows, seas, flowers, memories, and everything they love.
**See the world through someone else's eyes**
EXTRA UNIVERSE doesn't ask you to "understand" the artists — it asks you to temporarily set aside your familiar way of seeing, and try looking through someone else's eyes. Spending time in these universes, what once seemed strange may begin to make sense in its own way. What once seemed different may simply be another way of seeing, remembering, feeling, and communicating with the world.
This leads to the exhibition's central question: *"Does this bring our world and their world any closer together?"*
Perhaps...what they have in excess is the very part we lack.
The word EXTRA in EXTRA UNIVERSE doesn't only mean something "surplus" — it invites us to look at what they have, and what our world may be missing: finding joy in repetition, unhurried intention, being fully present with what you love, or seeing beauty without needing to explain it.
Under the exhibition's concept — *"Perhaps...what is in excess may be the part we lack"* — EXTRA UNIVERSE may not be telling us that they come from another world. Instead, it opens a space for us to ask ourselves: who, really, is the one living in a different world?
